da Fuller Potter is the d/o
Elijah Green
Fuller and Leona Smith. Ida married
Creed Flannery
Potter, the son of Joel Mart Potter and
Eliza Frances Reynolds. Ida Fuller Potter, the 3rd
wife of Creed Flannery Potter 1902, was born in Smithsboro, Knott Co.,
Kentucky. Mom's Children;
M
omma is living today in Texas. Mom, Ida Fuller Potter is the last
living child of Elijah
"Green" Fuller and Leona Smith Fuller. She is 90 years old as of the
year 2002. Mom is a Christian and has been for as long as I can remember.
We look forward to many years with our Mother.
O
ur Mammaw, Leona Smith Fuller 1884 married
late in life to our Dad's father
Joel Martin "Mart" Potter. Leona
Smith Fuller 1884 and (2nd) Elijah "Green" Fuller 1877
were the parents of our Mom, Ida Fuller Potter.
B
efore 2002 when my Mom became ill, she was a
talented guitar player and she had a very good singing voice. She
entertained our family all her life. Mom wrote songs and sang them, and
not too long ago, she sang gospel music and blues music that everyone loved to
hear. At every party and get together in our family, our Mom was the
entertainment.
M
om's brothers and sisters were also very
musically talented. Our Uncle B Fuller played blues and picked the guitar for us
even after he became so very ill with black lung disease that he got in
the coal mines. When we visited him in Isom, KY, he played for us and our
Mom would join in to play and sing. I have a wonderful recording of them
playing and singing together.
M
om's Mother, Leona Smith Hale Fuller Potter our Mammaw, was also a very good
musician. She played the dulcimer and sang to us. I don't think anyone
sings that kind of music anymore. She told terrific stories and I'm sure
that's where our Mom got her talent. I sure do miss our Grandmother, Leona
Smith Hale Fuller Potter, whom we called "Mammaw" and a few, like our brother Clark Potter, call "Maw Fuller".
W
e lived in the mountains of Kentucky and it
would often snow there in the winter time. When it would snow, Mom would
make us snow cream. I don't know how she did it, but she'd get clean snow
and make something like ice cream by mixing the snow with other
ingredients.
I
can never forget the snows there in the
mountains. I remember going outside when it was snowing heavily and
getting to see the entire world white. The air smells fresh when it snows
and the mountains are beautiful and dreamlike during a heavy snow.
M
om remembers her Grandpa, Elijah "Bunt" Fuller. She
tells us that he was well respected for his service in the Civil War. Mother told us that Great Grandpa Bunt served
on both sides in the Civil War I believe I've found where Great Grandpa Bunt served 1st in the 13th KY Cav CSA and after he
mustered out, he served on the Union side in the 3 Forks Battalion.
M
om
speaks with love and affection about her Grandma, Armelda Combs Smith.
Mom's Grandma, Armelda Combs Smith, lived with our Grandma Leona Smith
Fuller 1877 for a time late in her life. Armelda "Melda" Combs was the
wife of our Great Grandfather, Hilliard Jackson Smith. Mom's
Grandma "Melda" Smith was blind in her old age. She had a dry wit and a
good sense of humor. Our Mom, told us many good stories about her family.
We cherish each and every one of them.
A
fter our Dad, Creed Flannery Potter passed
away, our Mom stayed close to us. No matter the good times or the bad, she
was always there. To My Momma: I Love You!!! Kisses and hugs and more
kisses and hugs!!! And most of all, Thank You For Loving Me
Unconditionally!!
